Christian Places of Worship Free Essays

————————————————- â€Å"Christian places of worship should be plain and simple? † Discuss. Ollie Gardner This debate is a very strong subject for certain people and religion. For example the Catholics think that it is right to show their appreciation of god by designing their places of worship with big stained glass windows, huge organs and a big bold altar etc. We will write a custom essay sample on Christian Places of Worship or any similar topic only for you Order Now However the Protestants started out rebelling against the Catholics saying that you should not have to show your appreciation with money and gold but with commitment and feeling should be enough. No religion is right or wrong. Looking at the Protestant way of thinking about it that places of worship should be plain and simple. I can see many reasons why people do believe in this thought. One reason could be because they think that god does not have to be â€Å"bribed† or given these big expensive gifts to appreciate his followers and the people. That merely showing your commitment to him and well being should be enough to gain your love or that you already have his love. God in my point of view is not someone to judge someone by his or her wealth but by his or her actions. Meaning that wherever you worship in a church, at home in your bedroom, on the street in an alleyway with beer cans on the floor is good enough to show your respect and thanks. He does not think of you anymore by showing him and giving him gifts with great wealth. You might be quite poor and cannot afford to do anything quite so big and bold and might just want to do your own prayer at home or anywhere of your choice, which is still fine. On the other hand I can see why you would want to show your appreciation via: gifts, big services and god plated lecterns etc. It’s like on Valentines Day when you give you loved ones a present, card or gift of some point. I know the feeling of walking in to the Bath Abbey and being blown away by the remarkableness and memorising stain glassed windows that fill the room with colour. You do in some way feel that sense of astonishment and holiness as you witness something like the Bath Abbey. I can also see the commitment to god by giving him gifts of great wealth and big glamorous services. It shows hat if they have been lucky enough to be very wealthy or maybe not that much but to give what they can does show a certain amount of strong commitment. In conclusion either decision is fine, and god will not think of you any differently. In my point of view I would go with Protestant way of belief just because I think that god loves you whoever you are and we can show are own love to him, not by fancy lecterns and pulpits and a big choir but just by however way we feel like. Could be at home or anywhere tha t is most comfortable to you. How to cite Christian Places of Worship, Papers

Argument Against Too Much Television free essay sample

There have been many debates of whether television is bad for you or good for you. Both sides have come up with many interesting facts, some persons say that it can be good for you because it can be educational and help construct mental skills such as reading, listening, etc. This is true but only to a certain point; television can be helpful but only in controlled amounts. But most people don’t have these controlled amounts, and in some cases, actually have quite the opposite routine. They spend more time in front of T. V than anything else, and in this essay I will be commenting on the effects that too much television can cause. First effect: Television can create poor cognition Watching too much television can cause eye strain, people like television a lot and sometimes they stare at it for too long because they like it so much they don’t want to look away. Since they do this, it hurts the human eye and cause eye strain. Study’s made in the â€Å"General electric company† have deduced that a T. V emits x-rays, and too much of these rays can hurt eyes. An average person spends about two in front of a T. V if not more, and these x-rays will literally surge through your eyes and burn up your light receptors. And since most persons spend countless hours in front of a television in their lifetime, it is only natural that the person will have some kind of eyestrain. Some persons, especially children, are fascinated with this devise and can’t get enough of it. And in order to placate these needs they usually stick their face in front of the television and expose their eyes directly to the x-rays and therefore putting their eyes directly in front of the emitting x-rays allowing the nerves inside their eye to burn up instantly. Can hurt eye conduct, after all of these reasons, all of them cause nearsightedness. Other studies have concluded that spending too much time indoors can stop pupil dialation and cause a person from not being able to see in luminated places, and therefore making the person try to avoid light, in other words†¦daytime. In other cases, if a person watches too much television it can cause eye growth and this is necessary for a person since things gradually get harder to read as you develop in the world. Since a person’s eye sight can be damaged from television it can make the person develop other symptoms regarding gradual loss of eyesight, such as anger or violence. Second effect: Too much T. V can cause health symptoms They can be detrimental, kids that watch more than two hours of television are more likely to become overweight since the only thing they do is become a couch potato. There have been cases that some persons become so connected or better said addicted that they actually become aggressive if made to withdrawl for a while or disturbed while watching television. In others, the person who has exposed for too long to television think that the things he sees in T. V are actually real and are constantly scared that something bad is always going to happen. As a product of these happenings, they can build risky behaviors. Another set of symptoms can hurt mental health. The â€Å"Pediatric health issues† have made various contributions to this thought such as; the beginning stages of depression can be caused by excessive television because of the person wanting his or her life to be more like the movies, the construction of unhealthy habits like making watching television one of the top priorities in his or her life, cease to find pleasure in anything other than watching television, including basic pleasures such as eating. And in very rare case, the person literally loses his or hers nerve stimulation, so this person actually cannot feel anything. Third effect: Eats away at a person’s mind and relationships Mental health, sometimes a person becomes so addicted to television they actually stop caring about the world with anything and everything inside it except him/herself and the television.. If the person watches too much television he or she may also be prone to immense loads of stress. This happens because; even if the person is addicted to television he or she may still have duties they have to perform. The person may realize that if they don’t accomplish these tasks, they will not be able to continue doing what they love best, watching T. V. And since they acknowledge this, they will try to get, whatever is impeding they’re time from their favorite thing in world, out of the way as quickly as possible. As a result, he or she will be exposed to unnecessary stress. Another side-effect is that the person will have sleep disorder, because the person mind is processing the loads of images it has seen. Also, these persons are more likely to acquire the mental illness known as Alzheimer’s. Destroys relationships, from watching too many movies, the person may want impossible things from they’re partner, they can stop caring about they’re partner, can become unsatisfied with they’re partner and final prefer television over humans. These facts were found from the research of â€Å"Journal mass communication and study†. You have just read the read my evidence of why I think that too much television is bad. It is true that it can be helpful and educational, but this is only true if taken in small doses. There are many other reasons why too much television is bad so I will not try to name them, so the decision lies on you. Continue to placate your need for television, or stop its effects dead on its tracks. Too much television is harmfull.
